John M. Pender – How to photograph Still Life like the Old Masters painted

John is known for his ability to capture the composition and vivid colors of the Classic Still Life like the Old Masters. He uses only natural light, and his Old World style creates stark black backgrounds with foregrounds that come alive with intense realistic color. He is heavily influenced by the Dutch Masters and the Renaissance.

John has won numerous awards both local and national. He belongs to art centers from Naples to Venice and does consignment work as well as donating art to charitable organizations.

“In some way photography is more difficult that painting. A painter is free to move elements around in a painting, create a new color scheme, as well as create or change highlights. Whereas a photographer must see the light, diffuse it, bend it and direct it to its subject.”
